The Best Is Yet To Come – Rich B and His Frank Sinatra Tribute

“The Best is Yet to Come” is a song from Frank Sinatra‘s 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing. it was written by Cy Coleman and Caroline Lea.

“The Best Is Yet To Come” was the last song on the set list of Frank Sinatra’s Final Public Concert February 25, 1995 performance at the Frank Sinatra Golf Tournament, Palm Springs Marriott Desert Spring Resort. I feel this entire concert was one of the single best performances of Sinatra’s career. A lot of folks would tend to say otherwise. I attempt to do it justice here, as I sing a small excerpt….

I feel the band is at its absolute best, and the arrangements finally seem to have the missing pieces, plus it’s just brass and saxes and the rhythm section. The performance itself is boiled down to the best of the best of his repertoire.  It was only to be 1 song and then Sinatra as to go to the bar. But he asked for one after another and the conductor, Frank Jr., was more than happy to keep the party going. It shows that no matter the age, Sinatra, as with any performer in any artistic arena needs to feel needed and have an audience of support.

There’s a lovely piece in Esquire Magazine about Sinatra’s final concert,  written by legendary Sinatra-phile, and radio personality, Jonathon Schwartz, who hosted a radio show, on 1560, WQEW, New York, for many years featuring The Chairmen Of The Board and the songs that made him famous.

Conducted by his son, it was Sinatra’s last ever performance, and the last song he sung in public. Being so, the words “The Best is Yet to Come” were carved into Sinatra’s tombstone. However, it’s recently been changed to the inscription, “Sleep Warm Papa,” which the daughters had changed and was Frank’s radio show sign-off. In my Sinatra Tribute Show, this is my last song, prior to the encore.
